Screenly 2 takes SoC digital signage to new levels
  • Full hardware accelerated playback for all supported asset types
  • Gapless playback for images, videos, and web-pages
  • Official support for NEC P- and V- series monitors through the built-in Raspberry Pi SoC
  • Hardened security provided by Canonical through Ubuntu Core

Screenly, Inc., the maker of the original and leading digital signage platform for the Raspberry Pi, today announces Screenly 2, the latest generation of their System-on-a-Chip (SoC) digital signage player.

“We’re very proud to unveil this new release of Screenly. It is the result of over two years of R&D efforts, which includes a complete rewrite to capture the full potential of the Raspberry Pi SoC platform,” said Viktor Petersson, CEO and co-founder of Screenly, Inc

“Screenly 2 runs on Linux and supports full HD playback of images, videos, and web pages. While the previous releases pushed the boundaries of the Raspberry Pi platform at the time, the new release goes even further by offering smooth, gapless transitions between all supported asset types”, Mr. Petersson continues.

In addition to significant playback enhancement, Screenly 2 is also the first commercial digital signage platform to adopt Ubuntu Core. For end-users, this means they can enjoy industry-leading security.

Through Screenly’s partnership with NEC, the new release is also available as an official digital signage platform for NEC’s P- and V-series monitors. Since NEC’s products are equipped with all required hardware, end-users can take advantage of a simplified deployment process. This turnkey solution effectively resolves a common technical pain point for end-users

Screenly 2 is available today both as a disk image and as a hardware kit from Screenly’s official distributors. You can also see Screenly 2 in action at NEC’s booth at Digital Signage Expo (DSE) in Las Vegas in March.
