# Digital signage on Android and Android TV

Android TVs, Android-based commercial displays, tablets, and streaming boxes are widely available and inexpensive, which makes them straightforward to source and to justify.

Screenly Anywhere installs on all of them from the Google Play Store.

## How it works

Install the app from Google Play and open it. It shows a pairing code. Enter that code in your Screenly dashboard and the device joins your fleet, managed with the same playlists, scheduling, and monitoring as every other Screenly screen.

The Android app is our web app packaged for Android, so it behaves the same as the browser route with a launcher that is easier to live with on a television.

## What it is good for

Screens where the hardware budget is the constraint. Android hardware is inexpensive and widely available, and replacing a failed unit means ordering another one rather than sourcing a discontinued model.

Commercial displays that already run Android. Many large-format panels have Android built in, which removes the separate player from the installation entirely.

## What to weigh against it

Android hardware is built for people who are in the room. It sleeps, it powers down after a period with no remote input, and it puts its own launcher in front of whatever is running.

Two device settings decide whether a screen comes back on its own after a power cut, and both are off by default on many devices. Consumer televisions are the harder case, because some ship with security or power-management apps that block an app from starting on boot at all.
