# Digital signage on ChromeOS Flex

ChromeOS Flex turns older PCs and Macs into managed ChromeOS devices. For organizations with hardware that still works but no longer suits its original job, it is a way to get more life out of machines already on the books.

Screenly runs on it as an auto-launching kiosk app, deployed centrally rather than configured device by device.

## How it works

In the Google Admin Console you add Screenly Anywhere as a kiosk app and set it to auto-launch for an organizational unit. A device enrolled into that unit restarts straight into Screenly and shows a pairing code, which you enter in your dashboard.

The policy travels with the device, so a replacement machine enrolled into the same unit comes up the same way with nothing configured locally.

## What it is good for

IT-managed fleets, where devices are enrolled centrally and policy is how everything else is already handled.

Screens in public areas. A kiosk policy hides the desktop and the login prompt, and a passer-by cannot exit to anything else. That is usually the reason to choose ChromeOS Flex over a plain browser on the same machine.

Reusing hardware. A PC too old for a current desktop operating system is often perfectly capable of showing a playlist.

## What to weigh against it

This is not a quick one-off setup. Getting to the first screen means touching the Admin Console, defining a policy, and enrolling a device. If you want a single screen running in a few minutes, the [browser](/docs/anywhere/platforms/browser/) route is faster on the same hardware.

It also assumes you have Google Workspace with Chrome device management. Without that, the kiosk policy that makes this route worthwhile is not available to you.
