# How billing works


> Per screen, per workspace, one plan for everyone in it. The three things that decide what you pay.
Three numbers decide the bill: which **plan**, how many **licenses**, and **monthly or annual**.

Nothing else counts. Content, playlists, apps, storage, and, above Starter, people are all uncounted. Screenly scales on one thing: how many screens you run.

## Per workspace

Billing belongs to the workspace, not to your account. Belong to three workspaces and you are looking at three subscriptions, each with its own plan, payment method, and license pool.

The exception is [linked workspaces](/docs/workspaces/linked-workspaces/what-they-are/) on Enterprise, where a parent holds one subscription and one pool for a group.

## One plan for everybody in it

A plan applies to the whole workspace. Every license in it runs on the same plan, and everyone in it gets the same features. You cannot mix.

That has a practical consequence worth knowing before you buy: if one screen needs 4K, the whole workspace goes to Business.

## Minimums are billed whether or not you use them

Business bills for **five** screens and Enterprise for **twenty-five**, regardless of how many you have connected. Running three screens on Business costs the same as running five.

## 4K needs both halves

A Business plan **and** a device that can do 4K. Upgrading the plan does not make a 1080p player show 4K, and a [Player Max](/docs/screenly-players/) on Starter still plays at 1080p.

## When the trial ends

Pick a plan and everything carries over untouched: screens stay connected, content stays in the library, playlists keep their schedules.

If it expires first, screens stop playing. Nothing is deleted, and subscribing restores playback with no setup. The trial no longer converts into a paid subscription on its own; it simply ends. See [Free trial](/docs/get-started/plans/free-trial/).

## Who can see billing

Owners, Admins, and Billing Managers. Everyone else does not see the billing page, and the button that leads to it is disabled with an explanation rather than hidden. See [Roles and permissions](/docs/workspaces/people/roles-and-permissions/).
