There are two ways to add an app.
The usual one is the App store. The other is the CLI, which is the advanced route for an app you have built yourself.
Neither one goes through New content. The app appears under Apps. It does not appear in Content with your images and videos.
From the App store
Open Apps and go to the App store. Browse by category, or search.

- Open the app and choose Install.
- Give it a name. This is what you will look for under Apps later, so name it for what it shows rather than what it is:
Frankfurt weatherbeatsWeather. - Fill in its settings. What you see depends on the app: a location for weather, a dashboard for a business intelligence tool, sometimes nothing at all.
- Choose Install again.
It appears under Apps.
From the CLI
This is the advanced route. If you have built an app yourself, the CLI deploys it to your workspace, and an instance of it appears under Apps, the same as one from the store.

What happens next
Add it to a playlist, give it a duration, and assign the playlist to screens.
Give it a generous duration. An app fetching live data has to load before it can show anything, so a dashboard on screen for ten seconds may spend most of that loading. Thirty or forty seconds is more realistic. See How long things play.
