# Add content and put it in order

> Add items from the library, drag to reorder, and set a duration per item. Order matters more than it looks.
## Adding items

1. Open the playlist and stay on the **Content** tab.
2. Choose the **+** button.
3. Browse or filter by type, and use **+** next to each item you want.
4. Choose **Done**, then **Save**.

Items land in the order you added them. Everything in your [library](/docs/content/library/) is available, whatever its type.

## Reordering

Drag items into the order you want, then save.

Order matters more than it looks. A rotation is read in passing by someone who arrives at a random moment, so the item most likely to be seen is the one that follows whatever holds attention longest. Put the thing you most want read straight after the video, not straight before it.

The playlist loops from the top, so there is no last item in practice; there is only the item before the one people are already watching.

## Durations

Each item carries its own duration, defaulting to **10 seconds** and settable from 1 second to 24 hours.

Video and audio are the exceptions: they play for their own length and the duration cannot be edited.

A dashboard or a heavy web page needs longer than an image, both to be read and to finish loading. See [How long things play](/docs/content/overview/how-long-things-play/).

## Removing items

Remove an item and save. It stops playing on the next sync, and it stays in your content library, still available to every other playlist.

That is different from deleting from the library, which removes it everywhere at once. See [Deleting content](/docs/content/library/deleting-content/).

## Saving

Changes are not live until you save. Once saved, every screen assigned to the playlist picks them up on its next check-in and downloads anything new, usually within a few minutes.

You never reassign a playlist after editing it. The assignment is to the playlist, not to its contents.
