# Enable and disable


> Take a playlist out of service without dismantling it. The reversible alternative to deleting.
The switch is on the playlist's **Actions** tab. When disabled, the playlist does not play on any screen.

Everything else stays: its content, its order, its schedule, and its screens. Re-enable it and it resumes exactly as it was.

## When to use it

**Seasonal content.** A winter rotation can sit disabled through summer rather than being rebuilt each year.

**Something that turned out to be wrong.** Disabling stops it on every screen at once, which is faster and safer than editing under pressure.

**Anything you are unsure about.** Disabling is reversible; deleting is not. When tidying up and you cannot remember what a playlist is for, disable it and see whether anyone notices.

## Spotting a disabled playlist

The list shows **Disabled** in its status column, and the playlist's own page carries a banner on every tab except Actions. That is deliberate: it stops someone editing a playlist for ten minutes before realising why nothing is appearing.

A disabled playlist assigned to screens is the most common reason for content that looks correct and is not playing.
