# Get the image

> The ScreenlyOS image for Scala players comes from Screenly support rather than a public download, and why the process works that way.
The ScreenlyOS image for Scala players is not a public download. Contact [Screenly support](https://support.screenly.io/), tell us which models you have, and we will send you the image and the steps for your hardware.

We do it this way because these installations replace a working system on hardware we have not always seen, and because support depends on the model. [Supported models](/docs/screenlyos/hardware/scala-players/reference/supported-models/) shows where each one stands.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> Installing ScreenlyOS on a Scala player replaces what is on the device. Anything held only on that player, including locally stored content and its Scala configuration, is gone once the install starts. Confirm you can rebuild the schedule in Screenly before you begin.

## What to expect afterwards

Once ScreenlyOS is installed, the player behaves like any other ScreenlyOS device. It shows a pairing code on first boot, you enter it in your dashboard, and it updates itself from then on.

[Boot and pair the device](/docs/screenlyos/first-device/boot-and-pair-the-device/) covers the pairing step and what first boot does.
