# Choosing a model


> The standard Screenly Player shows content at up to 1080p. The Max adds 4K, a TPM, and Secure Boot, and has the outputs for a joined-canvas video wall.
Two models. They differ in resolution and in the security hardware on the board.

## Standard

Raspberry Pi based. It shows content at up to 1080p.

This covers most screens. A display showing a playlist, a dashboard, or a web page does not need more than this, and it is the right default unless something below applies to you.

## Max

The more powerful model. It goes up to 4K, and it adds a TPM and Secure Boot.

Pick it if any of the following applies.

### The content is genuinely 4K

A 4K panel showing 1080p content is not a reason on its own.

### The screen has to meet stricter security requirements

Secure Boot means the device will only start software we signed.

### You want credentials sealed to the hardware

On a device with a TPM, the credentials a screen uses to reach protected content are stored in that chip rather than in ordinary storage, which matters for a screen showing a dashboard behind a login or reaching an internal service over mutual TLS.

### You need one player to drive more than one display

The Max has the outputs for it. Driving them as [a single joined surface](/docs/screenlyos/overview/multiple-displays/) is not self-serve yet, so talk to us before you plan around it.

## If you are unsure

Pick the Max if the budget allows.

The standard player is the right choice when you know the screen's job and know it will not change. Plenty of screens are like that. But content gets replaced, a 1080p panel gets swapped for a 4K one, a security review arrives a year after the install, or someone asks for a second display off the same player.

The Max has headroom for all of that. Choosing it costs more once. Choosing the standard model and being wrong costs a replacement player and a site visit.
