Creating a child
From the workspace switcher, choose to create a new workspace and name it. You become its Owner.
A workspace created this way starts with no subscription of its own, which is exactly what you want: it is about to draw on the parent’s.
Linking it
From the parent workspace:
- Go to Settings, then Linked workspaces.
- Choose Link workspace.
- Select the workspace and confirm.
It appears in the parent’s list and starts drawing on the shared pool immediately.
The case the dashboard cannot handle
A workspace that already has its own subscription cannot be linked from the dashboard. That includes any workspace someone set up and paid for separately, which is the common real-world case.
Contact support and we will do it. Expect to say which workspace becomes the parent and what should happen to the existing subscription.
Plan for this if you are consolidating workspaces that grew up independently. It is not a self-service migration.
Order of operations
Link before connecting screens in a child, not after.
A child with its own subscription and screens already running is the awkward case above. A child created empty and linked immediately is a two-minute job.
Unlinking
From the same page, through the workspace’s row menu.
The workspace stops drawing on the parent’s pool. It does not become free: it needs a subscription of its own, and its screens stop when it has neither. Arrange the new subscription before unlinking rather than after.
