# One account, many workspaces


> Your account is your login and follows you everywhere. Switching between workspaces, and what a new one starts as.
Your **account** is personal: your email address, your passkeys, your two-factor setup. A **workspace** is shared. You sign in with the account, then work inside a workspace.

One account can belong to as many workspaces as you have been invited to or created. Each is entirely independent, and switching between them is like switching organizations.

Signing in is an account concern; everything you then do is a workspace concern. See [Your account](/docs/account/).

## Switching

Use the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar.

If you belong to more than one workspace, or have an invitation waiting, signing in lands you on a workspace picker first: a list to choose from, and a tab for pending invitations. With exactly one workspace and nothing pending, you skip it. See [The dashboard](/docs/get-started/getting-around/the-dashboard/).

Each workspace also has its own address, so you can bookmark one directly and go straight there. You still have to be a member.

## Creating another

From the workspace switcher, choose to create a new workspace. You become its Owner.

A new workspace starts empty and, in most cases, without a trial: the free trial is once per person, so if you already belong to a workspace, or have a pending invitation to one, a workspace you create afterwards does not come with another. See [Free trial](/docs/get-started/plans/free-trial/).

## Joining one

If you sign up by following an invitation link, you join that workspace directly. No new workspace is created for you and no trial starts, because you are entering someone else's workspace rather than starting your own.

## Leaving one

Remove yourself from the members list. Your Screenly account is untouched and your other workspaces are unaffected.

The Owner cannot do this. Ownership has to be transferred first. See [Managing members](/docs/workspaces/people/manage-members/).
