Screenly release notes from January 2026.

Clearer error messages for Power BI and other integrations

Real error messages from integration endpoints (like Power BI) were being blocked before reaching the dashboard, showing only a generic failure instead. Power BI errors now show the actual reason, for example when you’ve hit an embed-token limit.

Fixed Power BI reports failing to load on screens

Power BI reports (as opposed to dashboards) embedded via the Power BI app could intermittently fail to authenticate. They now load reliably.

Jan 23

Fixed server-side rendering loading the wrong page

Content captured via server-side rendering could load the wrong thing: specifically, a page pointing at a sub-page or a URL with query parameters. The underlying fetch dropped everything after the base domain, so a URL like example.com/reports/q3?id=42 would load example.com’s home page instead of the report it was supposed to show. It now loads the exact page and parameters you specified.

Jan 22

Fixed missing access token key after creation

Creating a new API access token shows a confirmation dialog meant to display the key exactly once, since it can’t be retrieved again after you close it. That dialog was coming up empty, so there was no way to copy the key you’d just generated. It now correctly displays the key so you can copy it before moving on.

Security hardening in the dashboard

We made a security improvement to the dashboard. This required no action from you, and there’s no visible change to normal use.

Fixes

  • After lowering a subscription’s screen count, extra screens are now reliably disabled to match the new quantity, instead of occasionally staying active.

A configurable delay for server-side rendering, and resubscribe from the billing portal

Server-side rendering captures a web page, app, or PDF on our servers and displays that image on the screen instead of the device rendering it live. It’s a good option for content that’s too heavy for a device to render on its own.

That capture used to happen the instant the page loaded, which could cut off slow-loading content like widgets or animations. You can now set a delay before the capture is taken, giving that content time to render first.

Resubscribe from the billing portal

If your workspace previously canceled a Stripe subscription, you can now resubscribe directly from the billing portal. Previously, getting back on a paid plan after canceling meant contacting support.

Fixes

  • Fixed a race condition where two admins adding members to the same workspace at nearly the same moment could both slip past the seat limit. The second request is now asked to retry briefly instead.
  • Submitting a blank password when disabling two-factor authentication or confirming a sensitive account change now shows a clear “Incorrect password” message instead of failing unclearly.

Improvements

  • Reliability improvements to background task processing.

Faster Power BI dashboards, and stronger session security

Screens displaying Power BI dashboards no longer wait on a fresh authentication round trip every time the dashboard reloads. The embed token is now reused for a short window, so Power BI content on screens loads faster and refreshes more smoothly.

Improvements

  • Strengthened security around how sign-in sessions are protected.
  • Reworded the “screen offline” notification email to be clearer. What triggers it and when you get it are unchanged.
  • Upgraded core platform infrastructure and dependencies to improve security and keep the underlying runtime current.
