Release Notes

April 2026

Screenly release notes from April 2026.

Apr 24

Fixed API tokens being incorrectly blocked from creating screens and invitations

If you called the Screenly API directly with an API token, rather than through the dashboard, to create or update a screen, create a shared playlist, or send a workspace invitation, your request could be rejected with an authentication error even though the token was valid. The underlying check only recognized dashboard session tokens, not regular API tokens. Requests authenticated with a valid API token now succeed as expected.

Improvements

  • Applied security updates to third-party dependencies across several of our services.

Linked workspaces, a new Billing page, and a new Privacy Mode for screens

Enterprise customers can now link multiple workspaces together under one shared billing account. A new Billing page in Settings shows your subscription overview, plus, on Enterprise, the list of linked workspaces. This is the first customer-facing piece of the workspace-level billing architecture we started building earlier this year. The Billing page itself is available on every plan; linking workspaces together is Enterprise-only.

We also redesigned the workspace switcher for better navigation.

Privacy Mode for screens

Any screen can now be switched to Privacy Mode from Screen Settings, which stops screenshots of that screen from being captured or stored. It’s useful for displays showing sensitive content, where you don’t want even a preview image kept anywhere.

Improvements

  • The Integrations page in Settings has been rebuilt on our newer, faster interface, matching the Dashboard and Apps pages.
  • Refreshed the “Shop Players” section on the Dashboard with a new look.

Fixes

  • Minor fixes to subscription-related displays in the dashboard.

SSO account linking without a password, and a real 404 page

Linking your SSO login to an existing Screenly account used to require typing your account password. It now works with a two-step emailed code instead: request a code, then enter it to link the accounts.

A real error page instead of a blank screen

Hitting a broken or invalid page in the dashboard used to show a blank screen with no way back. It now shows a proper “page not found” or “something went wrong” screen with a button back to the dashboard.

We also fixed the Settings link in the account menu, which was triggering a full page reload instead of navigating normally.

Fixes

  • Workspaces whose Stripe subscription had been canceled or removed directly in Stripe, leaving a stale record behind, stopped seeing the “no active subscription” warning anywhere in the dashboard and saw a blank Billing page instead of a clear message. Both now display correctly.

Improvements

  • “Buy a Player” and “Order Player” buttons on the dashboard and Add Screen page now open our Shopify store directly instead of an in-app device picker.

A snappier dashboard, and no more fake Stockholm location

The faster page navigation we shipped earlier this month now feels instant. Moving between pages in the dashboard has no flash, no reload, no waiting, it just changes right in front of you.

Settings tabs also have their own proper URLs now, so you can bookmark or share a link straight to the tab you need.

Faster loading on the Dashboard and Settings pages

The Dashboard and Settings pages now load their data in one batch instead of piecemeal, cutting down on the loading flicker you’d see as different parts of the page populated one after another.

Fixes

  • Transferring a Screenly Anywhere screen to another workspace could break its labels, leaving it attached to the old workspace’s Anywhere label instead of the new one. It now transfers correctly.
  • When a screen’s location couldn’t be determined, for example behind a VPN, it used to default to a hard-coded location in Stockholm, Sweden instead of showing nothing. It now correctly shows no location instead of a wrong one.
  • Signing in with two-factor authentication used to have a separate page for backup codes. There’s now just one field: enter either your regular authenticator code or a backup code, and we’ll figure out which one it is.

Faster page navigation in the dashboard

Moving between pages in the dashboard used to reload the entire app each time, sidebar and all. Navigation is now handled without that full reload, so the sidebar stays in place and pages switch noticeably faster.

Fixes

  • Fixed a few rough edges from the navigation change above: some links in the Apps section still triggered a full page reload instead of switching smoothly, the back button didn’t always behave correctly, and the loading spinner and sidebar icons could display incorrectly. All of these are now fixed.

Email codes now required for sensitive account changes

Changing your account email, or turning two-factor authentication on or off, now requires entering a confirmation code sent to your email before the change takes effect. This adds a layer of protection against someone hijacking your session and quietly changing your account’s security settings.

Refreshed Account and Settings pages

The Account and Settings pages have been rebuilt on our newer, faster interface. Everything you could do there before is still there, just faster to navigate.

Improvements

  • Anything previously labeled “Team” in the dashboard is now called “Workspace,” matching how we talk about it everywhere else. Nothing about how it works changed.
  • Fixed a security issue in our API. Normal API clients and integrations are unaffected.
  • Applied security updates to third-party libraries across several of our backend services.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the Screenly Anywhere web player could fail to load its playlist; it now fetches content reliably.
