- Fix
The background worker stops killing its own processes
On a board short of memory, the background worker no longer kills and restarts its own idle processes, which cost the board time and memory it didn't have. It was the largest single problem in the crash reports Anthias devices send the project.
- Fix
Restoring a backup no longer corrupts or locks up the database
Restoring a backup could leave Anthias with a database it couldn't read, or one so locked that the web interface answered with server errors. Backups now hold a single consistent copy of the database, and Anthias starts cleanly on a just-restored or older database.
- Fix
Media that takes too long to process no longer stays on Processing
When preparing or downloading an asset runs out of time, Anthias 2026.10.0 marks it Failed with a timeout message instead of leaving it on Processing, and an image over the 50 megapixel limit says to resize it.
- Fix
The viewer starts more reliably after restores, slow boots and display restarts
After a restore, a slow first boot or a change to screen rotation, a player could sit on a black screen while the viewer kept failing to start. Anthias 2026.10.0 fixes 4 ways it got stuck, and when the display process does fail, the error now says how it ended.
- Fix
Players showing the same playlist drift apart less
An image or web page now rotates when its duration is up, counted from the start of the rotation rather than after the player's own overhead, so screens showing the same playlist stay in step for longer.
- Fixes and improvements
The upgrade script no longer runs a Pi 2 or Pi 3 out of memory, and other fixes
A memory card with an unusual product name no longer turns off storage health monitoring, and starting the viewer no longer logs an error about a missing process file.

- Improvement
Large uploads work behind a proxy, and a failed upload says why
A video bigger than your reverse proxy's request limit, such as Cloudflare's 100 MB cap on its Free and Pro plans, now uploads instead of failing. When an upload does fail, the message names the cause.
- Improvement
Files dropped anywhere on Schedule Overview upload
Images and videos dragged from your desktop upload wherever you let go on Schedule Overview. Before, only the upload area inside Add asset took a drop, and a file dropped anywhere else opened in the browser and took you off the page.
- Security Breaking change
Live updates in the web interface need a signed-in session
With authentication on, Anthias 2026.09.0 sends the web interface's live updates only to signed-in browsers. Your browser keeps working as before, but a script or other client that listens on /ws without signing in is refused.
- Improvement
Backups carry only what Anthias needs, and restores check the version
A backup from Anthias 2026.09.0 holds your settings, database and content, and leaves out half-finished uploads that only made it bigger. A restore turns down a backup whose database is newer than it understands, before writing anything, and tells you which release to upgrade to.
- Improvement
Upgrades remove the old Anthias images they replace
Each upgrade now deletes the Anthias images of the release it replaced once the new one is running, so old releases stop piling up on the card. One person found 6 old releases taking about 16 GB, and a script clears the ones already there.
- Improvement
Boards recover on their own when memory runs out or the system hangs
When memory runs out, Anthias 2026.09.0 makes sure the viewer is what gets stopped and restarted, and the installer sets up a watchdog that reboots a board whose system hangs, instead of leaving it dark until someone power cycles it.
- Fixes and improvements
Less black screen when a video gives way to an image, and other fixes
Add asset opens with an empty form every time, boards other than the Raspberry Pi show their own name on System info, and the installer no longer floods its output with Ansible warnings on Raspberry Pi OS Trixie.
2026.08.2
- New
A warning on every page when a Raspberry Pi isn't getting enough power
When a Raspberry Pi player's power supply can't hold its voltage, the web interface says so on every page and lists the fixes, before the weak supply damages the memory card.
- New
The web interface warns when a player's storage is failing or full
A memory card going bad rarely announces itself: the screen keeps playing while your changes stop sticking. Anthias now checks the storage it runs from and says on every page what's wrong and what to do about it.
- Fixes and improvements
Settings flags a player that skips SSL certificate checks, and other fixes
Notifications in the web interface show their icons, field labels in the Edit asset dialog no longer cover their examples, and the disk chart on System Info uses the same colors as the memory chart.
