A new display schedule blanks the screen outside opening hours
A screen in an office or shop no longer has to stay lit all night and all weekend for nobody. Set the hours and days under Settings > Display schedule, and Anthias switches the screen off at closing time and back on in the morning, on a plain monitor or a TV.
- Fix
HDMI-CEC display controls no longer fail on a Raspberry Pi 2, 3 or 4
On a Raspberry Pi 2, 3 or 4, the display power buttons failed and the System Info card read "CEC error", even with a CEC TV attached. Anthias 2026.08.1 sends HDMI-CEC commands on those boards, to every HDMI port with a CEC display, and stops calling a plain monitor an error.
- Improvement
Large JPEG and PNG uploads are resized on boards with little RAM
On a board with less than 1.5 GB of RAM, such as a Raspberry Pi 3, a JPEG or PNG bigger than 1920x1080 is shrunk when you upload it, so the viewer needs much less memory to show a phone photo.
- Fix
Menu Board's items and World Clock's cities can be set from the Apps tab
App settings that take a list, like the items on a Menu Board or the cities on a World Clock, can be filled in from the Apps tab. Before, Menu Board came up with a title and no menu.
- Fixes and improvements
A player with nothing to show stops filling its log, and other fixes
A Raspberry Pi 2 or 32-bit Pi 3 that loses its display restarts the viewer straight away, usage statistics include the Anthias version, and the website's API reference covers the whole API.

- New
Anthias installs and runs behind an HTTP proxy
A player whose only way out is an HTTP proxy can now be installed and kept running. The installer asks for the proxy and sets it up everywhere Anthias needs it, so you no longer configure apt, Docker and each container by hand.
- Fix
A TV switched on after the player boots gets a picture on Raspberry Pi 5 and x86
A Raspberry Pi 5, x86 or generic arm64 player that booted while its TV was off now brings the picture up on its own once the TV comes on, instead of staying on No Signal.
- Fix
Portrait photos from a phone or camera display upright
Portrait JPEG and AVIF photos no longer show up sideways on the screen, and JPEGs you uploaded before the upgrade are fixed too.
- Fix
URL and web page content loads after a cold boot on x86
On x86 players, web pages and other URL content no longer get skipped after a cold boot until Docker is restarted. On some Debian 13 PCs the change can break DNS while the installer runs, so read the known problem first.
- Fixes and improvements
Large HEIC, TIFF and AVIF photos no longer reboot boards with little memory, and other fixes
Installing from a Raspberry Pi's own screen no longer locks you out, the server stops logging a Redis timeout every few seconds while the web interface is open, and the installer warns you before it discards your edits to the Anthias checkout.

- Fix
The Audio output setting decides where sound plays on x86 PCs and arm64 boards
Choosing HDMI or 3.5mm jack in Settings now decides where video sound comes out on an x86 PC or a board running the arm64 image, instead of following whatever output the system had as its default.
- Fix
Video plays at full frame rate at 180° on Raspberry Pi 2 and 32-bit Pi 3
Video on an upside-down landscape screen on a Raspberry Pi 2 or 32-bit Pi 3 now plays as smoothly as unrotated video, instead of at about 2 frames per second. Portrait video on these boards is still slow.
- Fixes and improvements
Images added from a URL preview and download in the web interface, and other fixes
The debug report lists every asset and whether Anthias can reach it, and the Anthias website answers whether Anthias is Screenly OSE.
2026.07.3
- Fix Breaking change
Screen rotation turns content the same way on every board
Each Screen rotation choice now turns the picture the same way on every board, images and web pages rotate on a 32-bit Raspberry Pi 2 or 3, and video rotates on a 64-bit Pi 3. On a Pi 4, Pi 5, PC or other 64-bit board, a portrait screen set up earlier shows upside down until you switch its setting.
- New
Anthias container images come with signed build provenance
Every server, viewer and redis image Anthias publishes now carries a signed attestation, so one command tells you whether an image came from the Anthias repository's own build.
- Fix
The Anthias boot splash shows on a Raspberry Pi 2
A Raspberry Pi 2 installed with the install script showed plain text on black while it booted. The boot splash now waits long enough for the Pi 2's display to come up, so the Anthias splash appears.
- Fixes and improvements
App settings use your browser's date and time pickers, and other improvements
Anthias reports the right version in System Info, the install guide recommends Raspberry Pi Imager, and the get-started page marks the Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+ as not recommended.
