Bulk actions for assets, and uploads of several files at once
You can now select assets on the home page and enable, disable, edit or delete them in one step, so changing the schedule of 40 assets no longer means opening each one. Upload file takes several files at once too.
- New
A Prefer dark mode setting shows web pages in dark colors
Web pages on your screens can show in dark colors without any change to the pages themselves, including pages never designed with a dark theme. It's a switch in Settings, and it applies without a reboot.
- New
New blank and unblank commands turn a screen dark and wake it
Two commands sent through the API pause the playlist and darken a screen outside opening hours or during a meeting, then resume it. Unlike the HDMI-CEC controls, they work with any display, and on x86, Raspberry Pi 5 and generic arm64 boards the monitor goes into standby.
- Fix
Screen rotation turns the display on Raspberry Pi 5 and generic arm64 boards
The Screen rotation setting did nothing on a Raspberry Pi 5. From Anthias 2026.07.0 it turns the whole display there, and on generic arm64 boards such as the Rock Pi 4, as soon as you save.
- Fix
RTSP, HLS and DASH links play as live streams
A live stream added from a URL in Anthias 2026.07.0 plays in the video player and stays on screen for the default streaming duration. RTMP links, which only ever showed a black screen, are refused with a message that says what to use instead.
- Improvement
Raspberry Pi 5 accepts H.264 video, including YouTube downloads
Since Anthias 2026.05.1, a Raspberry Pi 5 refused H.264 uploads and marked YouTube downloads Failed. It takes H.264 now, and in the project's testing a 1080p, 30 fps clip played as smoothly as the same clip in HEVC.
- Improvement
Disk images flash directly in balenaEtcher, and Raspberry Pi Imager lists Anthias for the Pi 5
You no longer have to decompress an image before balenaEtcher will flash it, and the Raspberry Pi 4 download is about 30% smaller. Raspberry Pi Imager lists Anthias for every Pi it supports, the Pi 5 included, with names like Anthias (Raspberry Pi 5).
- New
A script that collects a redacted debug bundle for bug reports
One command packs a misbehaving player's logs and system details into a single archive to attach to a GitHub issue or forum post, with IP addresses, passwords and other secrets replaced first.
- Fixes and improvements
New and changed assets reach the screen without a restart, and other fixes
Backups from Settings download without timing out, content on your local network is no longer skipped, and installs on 32-bit Raspberry Pi OS and on the Raspberry Pi 3 run to the end.
2026.06.3
- New
A 64-bit image for the Raspberry Pi 3, and a balena fleet for the Rock Pi 4
A Raspberry Pi 3 on a 64-bit OS has its own image on balena and as a disk image, with the same viewer as the Pi 4. The Radxa Rock Pi 4 gets its own balena fleet and disk image.
- New
Anthias sends error reports to Sentry, and you can turn them off
The web interface, background worker and viewer now report errors to the Anthias maintainers by default, which is how several fixes in this release were found. You can turn the reports off or send them to your own Sentry project instead.
- Fix
The web interface and background worker keep running, and tasks no longer fail after upgrades
A device with an older time zone name or damaged files on its SD card no longer crash-loops at startup, and the web interface, worker and viewer wait for each other instead of failing with database locked errors. Tasks that run in the first minutes after an upgrade no longer fail.
- Fix
The screen recovers when a web page stalls or the webview crashes
A web page that stops loading is requested again instead of freezing the screen, the viewer restarts a crashed webview and carries on, and on Raspberry Pi 5 and x86 the webview no longer fails to start after a restart.
- Fix
Fixes to video playback on Raspberry Pi 2 and Pi 3
On the 32-bit Pi 2 and Pi 3 image, portrait and 4:3 clips keep their shape, short clips loop without freezing, 50 and 60 fps video plays at an even 30 fps, and a clip whose sound can't play still shows.
- Fix
Video plays with sound on Raspberry Pi 4 and 5, x86 and arm64
Videos on the Raspberry Pi 4 and 5, x86 PCs and generic arm64 boards played with no sound. They have sound now, including over HDMI on x86 PCs with common Intel, AMD and Nvidia audio hardware.
- Fixes and improvements
Play from and Play until accept 12-hour times, and other fixes
HEIC and TIFF uploads convert on the 32-bit Raspberry Pi 2 and Pi 3 image, 60 fps video on a Raspberry Pi 4 plays at its real speed, and a rejected video comes with HandBrake steps for converting it.
