Screens can be powered off from the dashboard

Sometimes a screen needs to be off, not restarted, like the one in a store that’s closing for a refit. Until now that meant someone walking up to the player.

Now you can do it from the dashboard. Open the screen, go to Actions, and choose “Power off”, next to “Reboot”. It works on screens running ScreenlyOS 26.8.0 or newer while they’re online. The player side, a power off command, arrived in ScreenlyOS 26.8.0.

A power off only goes out while the screen is connected. Screenly doesn’t hold it until the screen next checks in, because a screen that switches itself off hours later, with nobody expecting it, is worse than one that stays on. Screens are powered off one at a time, each from its own page.

Once a screen is off, the dashboard can’t reach it, and someone has to switch it back on at the player.
