It takes you from
naming the passkey to confirming on your device and tells you when it’s done, the same way creating
an API token does.

When something goes wrong, the error message says what happened, so you know how to fix it.

Screenly 26.11.3: Players report whether each command ran, and other behind-the-scenes work

Behind the scenes, the work in this release went into these areas:

Players now report back whether each command they get, such as reboot or take screenshot, ran.
It’s groundwork for device management: we’re working toward
showing in the dashboard which commands were sent to a screen, who sent them, and how each one
turned out.

How content files are delivered.

Screenly 26.11.2: An experimental light theme for the dashboard

The dashboard has always been dark. Now you can pick a light theme. Choose “Account settings” from
the account menu in the sidebar, open the new Appearance tab, and pick Light, Dark, or System.
System follows your computer’s setting and switches when it does.

The light theme is experimental, and a few pages may not look right in it yet. Dark stays the
default, so nothing changes until you pick something else.

Your choice is saved to your account, so it’s the same on every device you sign in on.

Screenly 26.11.1: Security and maintenance updates

This release has no changes you’ll see in the dashboard. The work went into these areas:

Security and maintenance updates to the components Screenly is built on.

How Screenly releases are built and delivered.

Screenly 26.11.0: Workspace settings have a new design

Workspace settings are easier to find your way around and calmer to work in. Each area has a page
of its own, so you see one set of settings at a time instead of a long row of tabs.

Click “Settings” in the sidebar and the sidebar becomes the settings menu:

General

Security

Members

Linked workspaces

Notifications

Integrations

Billing & subscription

Settings also explain themselves now. Each one says what it does right next to it, instead of in a
tooltip you had to find, and when your plan or your role doesn’t allow something, the page tells
you why, in place. You can set things up without opening the docs or asking support what a setting
means.

Every page works the same way, with settings grouped into clear sections.

Billing and plans

Billing & subscription puts your plan, its status, the next billing date, and how many screen
licenses are in use on one page. When something needs your attention, like a failed payment or a
free trial with no card on file, it says so at the top, next to the button that fixes it. Members
who don’t manage billing get a read-only version of the page, with the plan and usage but not
payments or invoices, so they can check the plan without asking around.

A new Plans page compares Starter, Business, and Enterprise side by side, with monthly and yearly
prices.

Roles

Settings > Members has a Roles page that shows what each built-in role can do, and the Members page
shows what your own role allows.

A confirmation before anything hard to undo

Actions you can’t easily take back now ask first. Leaving a workspace, for example, asks you to type
its name before it goes through, and turning off an alert channel asks you to confirm.

Screenly 26.11.0: The dashboard updates in real time, starting with the screen page

The dashboard now keeps a live connection to Screenly, so a change shows up the moment it happens
instead of the next time you refresh. When several people look after the same screens, everyone
sees the same thing at the same time, and nobody acts on a page that went out of date 5 minutes ago.

The screen page is the first to work this way. Leave a screen open and it keeps itself current:

A teammate renames the screen, edits its location or notes, or disables it, and you see it right
away.

The screen’s connection to Screenly drops or comes back, and the page shows it.

A screenshot you asked for appears as soon as the screen sends it.

If your own connection drops for a moment, the page catches up on whatever it missed as soon as
it’s back.

Screenly 26.11.0: Sign-in codes now last 30 minutes instead of 10

The code we email you to sign in now works for 30 minutes, up from 10. An email that arrives late,
or a code you read on your phone and type on your laptop, is still good by the time you enter it,
and the email itself says how long you have.

You still get 5 tries at each code.

Screenly 26.11.0: Email sign-ups start in the Lobby, and other improvements

Fixes

Renaming a screen to more than 255 characters under Screens > a screen > Settings now says
“Screen name should be at most 255 characters long.” under the name field, instead of failing
with a generic error.

On API v4.1, saving a screen whose name or location is over 255 characters, or whose notes are
over 65,536, returns an error that names the field and its limit, instead of a generic
error.

Creating an API token with a name you already use, under Settings > Security > API tokens, now
shows “Token name already in use” under the name field and keeps the name you typed, instead of
a toast and an empty field.

Improvements

The “Connect screen” dialog accepts screen names up to 255 characters, up from 50.

Signing up with an email address now works like
signing up with Google: instead of
getting a workspace created for you, you create your first one in the Lobby. Your free trial starts
when you create that workspace, not when you sign up.

Screenly 26.10.7: A new Playlists tab on every screen

Every screen now has a Playlists tab. It lists every playlist assigned to the screen and how each
one gets there, so you can see why a screen plays what it plays without opening playlists one by
one or working backward from its labels.

The tab is under Screens > a screen > Playlists, and it lists disabled playlists too, with each
playlist’s duration and state. A playlist shared from another workspace has “(Shared)”
after its title. The “Assigned via” column says how each one gets there: “Directly”, “Via 3
labels”, or “Directly and via 2 labels”, with All Screens counting as a label. Select it for the
details, with links to the playlist and to each label involved.

The tab is for reading. Assignments are still changed from the playlist or the label.

Help for getting started

The screen page also helps someone setting up their first screen, so a new user can go from a
connected screen to content on it without looking anything up.

A screen with no playlists says “No playlists are assigned to this screen yet” on its Overview,
with a link to the Playlists tab, and the tab itself points you to Playlists. Every tab of the
screen page also has a “How to add content” button that walks through the 3 steps: add your
content, put it in a playlist, then assign the playlist to the screen directly or with one of its
labels.

Screenly 26.10.7: Autofill stays out of fields that aren't about you, and other improvements

Your browser and password manager no longer offer your saved details on fields that aren’t about
you, such as a new screen’s name or a teammate’s address on the invite form. Your sign-in,
profile, and account email fields still take autofill.

On a screen’s Labels tab, each label’s name
opens that label’s page.

Improvements to how your account is linked when you sign in with Google, GitHub, Microsoft, or
your workspace’s SAML provider.

Screenly 26.10.6: Labels have their own pages

A label is how 1 playlist reaches the right 40 screens, but until now there was no page for the
label itself. You put labels on screens from a screen’s Labels tab or from a selection on the
Screens page, so answering “which screens are in Lobby, and what plays on them?” meant opening
screens until you had the picture.

Labels now have a page of their own, in the sidebar between Screens and Playlists. It shows every
label at a glance, with how many screens carry it and how many playlists it plays, and it’s also
where you manage them: you can create, rename, and delete labels right there, without starting from
a screen.

A page for each label

Open a label and it has 3 tabs:

Screens lists the screens with the label. “Add screens” opens a searchable list of the screens
that don’t have it yet, and you can remove any screen from the label.

Playlists does the same for the playlists assigned to the label, so you can change what a whole
group of screens plays from 1 place.

Settings is where you rename or delete the label.

Deleting a label can’t take content off your screens by surprise. A label can be what keeps a
playlist on dozens of screens, so before you confirm, the dialog tells you what deleting it will do:
how many screens will stop playing how many playlists, or that nothing will change on any screen.
Screens that also get those playlists through another label, or directly, aren’t counted, because
they keep playing them.

All Screens is the only label you can’t rename, delete, or add screens to, since every screen has it
automatically. You can still add playlists to it to play them everywhere.

Help for getting started with labels

The Labels page also helps anyone new to labels, so a team can start grouping screens without
reading the docs first. “How labels work” explains the idea in a few lines: give screens that belong
together a label, such as Lobby or Floor 2, add playlists to the label once, and every screen with
it plays them, including screens you label later.

It also covers what trips people up later: a screen with several labels plays the playlists from
all of them, All Screens is a label every screen has, and removing a label from a screen stops only
the playlists it got through that label.

Screenly 26.10.6: Screenshots on demand, from a screen's page

You’ve just changed a playlist and want to know whether the lobby screen picked it up. Until now,
the screenshot on the screen’s page was the last one the screen sent on its own, which happens
about every 15 minutes, so the answer could be a quarter of an hour old.

Now you can ask a screen for a fresh screenshot whenever you need one. Press “Take screenshot” on
the screen’s Overview, the screen captures what it’s showing at that moment, and the new
screenshot appears on the page as soon as it arrives.

It works on screens that are online and not in privacy mode, on ScreenlyOS 26.9.0 or newer, the
release that added the screenshot command
to players.

Screenly 26.10.6: Account settings open over the page you're on

Changing your name or timezone no longer takes you away from what you were doing. Choose “Account
settings” from the account menu in the sidebar, and the Account and Security tabs open in a dialog
over the current page. Close it, or press your browser’s Back button, and you’re back on that page.

Screenly 26.10.6: A screen's status follows its connection, and other improvements

Fixes

A screen that had reconnected after a dropped connection could keep showing “Disconnected”
on its Details tab, which also made “Power off” unavailable. The status now follows the
connection.

A reboot sent to a screen without a live connection could be lost if it arrived at the moment
the screen was checking in. It now reaches the screen at its next check-in.

Improvements

The timezone pickers in account settings and in an app’s timezone setting are searchable.
Type a city, a region, or an offset instead of scrolling through around 420 zones.

Emails from Screenly no longer start their subject line with “[Screenly]”. The sender name
already says who they’re from.

A tidier Screenshot card on a screen’s Overview, with the time under the image.

Screenly 26.10.5: Security updates to sign-in and accounts

Improvements

We rebuilt how sign-in and accounts work behind the scenes, with security updates across
sign-in, two-factor authentication, and team invitations.

Screenly 26.10.4: Screens can be powered off from the dashboard

Sometimes a screen needs to be off, not restarted, like the one in a store that’s closing for a
refit. Until now that meant someone walking up to the player.

Now you can do it from the dashboard. Open the screen, go to Actions, and choose “Power off”, next
to “Reboot”. It works on screens running ScreenlyOS 26.8.0 or newer while they’re online. The
player side, a power off command, arrived in ScreenlyOS 26.8.0.

A power off only goes out while the screen is connected. Screenly doesn’t hold it until the screen
next checks in, because a screen that switches itself off hours later, with nobody expecting it, is
worse than one that stays on. Screens are powered off one at a time, each from its own page.

Once a screen is off, the dashboard can’t reach it, and someone has to switch it back on at the
player.

Screenly 26.10.4: Improvements to the Add content dialog

Adding content to a playlist is quicker and easier, especially from a large library. The Add
content dialog, under Playlists > a playlist > Content, is bigger and built for finding the right
item fast:

Content is listed in a table you can sort by name, type, duration, or date added.

Folders open like folders, so you step into one instead of scrolling past all of them in one long
list, and you can add everything in a folder at once.

A PDF opens onto its pages, so you can add the pages you want, or all of them.

Search covers every folder at once and shows where each match lives.

Previews show the whole image, so a portrait poster and a widescreen banner are easy to tell
apart.

Screenly 26.10.4: Unsaved playlist changes can't get lost between tabs

Editing a playlist often means touching more than 1 tab: some content, then the schedule, then the
title. Until now those unsaved changes could pile up on different tabs, and it was easy to forget
one. The only way to be sure was to check each tab before leaving, and a title change on the
Settings tab could disappear without a word.

Now each tab is settled before you move on. The
warning the Content tab got in September
covers Content, Schedule, and Settings alike: leave any of them with unsaved changes, to another tab
of the playlist or away from it, and Screenly asks “Leave without saving?” first. You save or let
the change go right there, so there’s never an edit waiting on a tab you’re not looking at.

Screenly 26.10.4: Tabs always show their names, and other improvements

The tabs on the screen, playlist, workspace settings, and account settings pages always show
their names. In a narrow window, the tabs that don’t fit move into a “…” menu instead of the
whole bar shrinking to icons.

The tabs on the screen and playlist pages can be opened in a new browser tab, or have their
address copied, like any other link.

An image added to a playlist shows the 10-second duration it will be saved with, instead of a
different number until you saved the playlist.

They have a Labels tab of their own on the screen page,
instead of a section on its Settings tab.

The tab shows the screen’s labels in a table, with how many screens and playlists use each one, so
you can see how far a label reaches before you change it. Search and sorting make a long list easy
to get around, and you add and remove labels right from the table, all in 1 place.

Screenly 26.10.3: Screen reports on the API include hardware and software health

Screen reports on API v4.1 (
GET /v4.1/screens/reports
) now return much more of what a player
reports about itself. From your own tools, you can watch a fleet for an SD card or a disk that’s
starting to fail, keep an eye on temperatures, or check which model and software a player runs,
without opening each screen in the dashboard.

Storage:

sd_card_health
: errors on a Raspberry Pi’s SD card, and whether the card has turned read-only.

smart_disk_data
: a S.M.A.R.T. summary of the SSD or NVMe drive on an x86 player, including its
temperature, power-on hours, and how much of its life is used.

storage_info
: the identity of a Raspberry Pi’s SD card: name, manufacturer, and date.

disk_usage
: total, used, and free space on the player’s data storage, in bytes.

disk_stats
: read and write counters for each disk since the player started.

Hardware:

sensors
: temperature and other sensor readings, such as a Raspberry Pi’s chip temperature.

x86_stats
: hardware temperatures on Screenly Player and Screenly Player Max.

mem_info
: total, free, and available memory, in kB.

raspi_rev
and
raspi_serial
: a Raspberry Pi’s board revision and serial number.

Software and security:

installed_snaps
: every software package on the player, with its version.

device_model
and
validation_sets
: the ScreenlyOS image a player runs, and the exact package
versions it’s held to.

secure_boot
,
full_disk_encryption
, and
mtls_enabled
: whether the player uses secure boot,
an encrypted data partition, and a client certificate for its connection to Screenly.

is_wayland
: whether the player draws through the newer display stack.

Display, network, and running state:

display_data
: each connected display’s make, model, size, and supported resolutions.

screen_resolution
: the resolution content is shown at.

bluetooth
:
on
,
off
, or
unknown
.
off
also covers a player with no Bluetooth at all.

probe_diagnostics
: the results of the player’s own network checks, refreshed about once a day.

player_uptime
: seconds since the player’s content started, which restarts once a day.

local_time
: the player’s clock when it sent the report.

Fields fill in from each player’s next report, and some apply only to certain hardware: a field a
player doesn’t report is empty. These are additions, so existing responses keep every field they
had.

Screenly 26.10.3: Power BI reports stay on screen through connection renewals, and other fixes

Screens showing a Power BI report no longer show an error in its place when the workspace’s
connection to Power BI is due for renewal.

Changing a screen’s name or location now reaches the apps playing on it right away. An app
that shows either one used to keep the old value until something else changed for that screen,
such as an edit to one of its playlists.

which cabinet its player sits in, who has the key, which port on the switch it’s plugged into. We’d
like more teams to use them, so this release gives them room to be useful. Until now they were a
small text box on the screen’s Settings tab, capped at 255 characters and shown as plain text.

Notes now have a tab of their own, under Screens > a screen > Notes, and an editor with a formatting
toolbar. They show as formatted text, with headings, bullet and numbered lists, quotes, and links
you can click, and Markdown you paste in keeps its formatting. Notes can run to 65,536 characters.

For developers

On API v4.1, notes are the screen’s
description
field, which now takes up to 65,536 characters,
up from 255.

Screenly 26.10.1: Invited members can sign in with single sign-on, Google, GitHub, or Microsoft

When someone accepted an invitation to a workspace and went on to sign in with SAML single

the screens that stopped long ago hard to pick out, especially if you’ve just taken over a

A screen last seen in an earlier year now shows the year in place of the time: “Last seen Sep 28,

From
October 1, 2026, the v3 endpoints for managing screens, playlists, groups, and assets no longer
work:

Requests to
/api/v3/assets/
,
/api/v3/groups/
,
/api/v3/playlists/
, and
/api/v3/screens/

get a
410 Gone
response, with an error that points to the API reference.

The URLs for a single item under those paths, such as
/api/v3/screens/<id>/
, no longer work
either.

2 calls keep working for now, so older versions of the Screenly CLI can still add and remove
screens:
POST /api/v3/screens/
adds a screen, and
DELETE /api/v3/screens/<id>/
removes one.

The same data is in API v4.1, at
/v4.1/assets
,
/v4.1/labels
(what v3 called groups),

/v4.1/playlists
, and
/v4.1/screens
. The API reference
covers each one.

If an integration still calls these v3 endpoints: its requests fail from October 1, 2026.
Move them to the API v4.1 endpoints above.

On the screen, playlist, and settings pages, pointing at a tab you’re not on no longer makes it
look selected, so it’s always clear which tab is open.

Improvements

Every table in the dashboard opens sorted A to Z by its first column until you pick another
one, and numbers in names sort by value, so “Screen 2” comes before “Screen 10”.

Clicking a column header switches between ascending and descending, and no longer turns sorting
off on the third click.

API tokens, passkeys, installed apps, and content now open A to Z like everything else, instead
of newest first. If you’d opened API tokens, passkeys, or installed apps in a browser before,
they keep opening newest first in that browser until you click a header.

player version each one runs, or which local IP address a screen picked up. The Screens page can
now show that next to each screen’s name.

Open “Table settings” on the Screens or Playlists page to show, hide, and reorder columns. Your
choice is saved to your account, so it’s there the next time you open the page, in any browser.

The columns you can add:

Screens: Labels, State, Hostname, Player version, Device, Local IP, MAC, and Created.

Playlists: Plays on, Priority, Transition, Items, and Created.

“Export” downloads a CSV file of what the table shows: the columns you’ve chosen, and every row
that matches your search, not only the page you’re on.

What looks different

The Screens page opens with Name, Status, and Content status, and the Playlists page with Title,
Duration, and State. Labels on Screens and Plays on on Playlists are off until you turn them on.
The Playlists column that was called Status is now State, the same as on Screens.

Search looks only in the columns that are showing, so to find screens by a label’s name, turn the
Labels column on first.

Screenly 26.9.8: Playlists on API v4 and v4.1 include when they were created

Playlists returned by
/v4/playlists
and
/v4.1/playlists
now carry a
created_at
field with

any other field, so
created_at=gte.2026-09-01
lists the playlists made since September 1, 2026.

Creating a workspace with a name that’s too long or contains a tab now says what’s wrong with
the name, instead of creating the workspace without a name.

A workspace can no longer be renamed to nothing, or to a name made only of spaces, which left a
blank name in the sidebar. A name that’s turned down comes with a message saying why, rather
than a generic error.

Dragging content onto a folder on the Content page lights up the whole folder, so you can see
where it will land.

Improvements

Workspace names can be as short as 1 character, so a company called X can call its workspace X.

Tables across the dashboard share one look and behave the same way: status columns use the same
badges, previews and page controls match, and sorting, search, and paging work alike in every
table.

you come back to it. It reloads and lands where it belongs: the sign-in page if you signed out,
the same workspace if you signed back in, or the Lobby if
you’re now signed in as an account that isn’t a member of that workspace.

Until now the old tab carried on as if nothing had happened, and clicking around in it turned up
errors such as “Session team_id is not found”. Signing out and back in as the same account left it
showing “Your session has expired. Please sign in again” until you reloaded it yourself.

Opening a workspace your account isn’t a member of also takes you to the Lobby now, which lists
the workspaces you can open, rather than sending you back to the sign-in page.

Screenly 26.9.7: Clearer colors across the dashboard, as a step toward WCAG AA

We’re working to bring the Screenly dashboard up to the WCAG AA accessibility standard, so it’s easy
to read and use for everyone, including people with low vision or who use a screen reader. This
release is a step along the way.

The dashboard’s colors now follow contrast targets, so text, buttons, fields, and cards stand out
clearly from the background behind them. Before, the same kind of element could be one shade on one
page and another on the next, and in places a card was hard to tell apart from the page under it.
Every page now uses this one set of colors, which also makes the dashboard look the same wherever you
are in it.

A few smaller changes help too:

Only text that takes you somewhere, or opens a dialog, is underlined, so links are easy to
recognize.

Screen readers announce which page of a table you’re on.

“Go to actions” on a screen or a disabled playlist can be opened in a new tab.

The quick actions on Home use the same icons as the sidebar, and Home and the sign-in page no
longer have decorative background images.

Screenly 26.9.7: Members see the workspace name in settings, and other fixes

Fixes

Members who can’t rename the workspace now see its name under Settings > Workspace, with a note
that renaming needs admin permission, instead of a “You don’t have access to this section”
warning in place of the whole section.

If someone else renames the workspace while you have Settings > Workspace open, your tab picks
up the new name instead of offering to save the old one over it.

A single sign-on link that names an identity provider Screenly doesn’t know now shows a page
saying so, instead of an error page.

Screenly 26.9.6: A failed SAML sign-in now says what went wrong

When a SAML sign-in failed, almost every cause showed the same message: something was probably
misconfigured, either at the identity provider or in Screenly. It never told you which one to fix.

The message now names the cause and who can fix it. The most common one is an identity provider
that has rotated its signing certificate. The message says the certificate saved in Screenly no
longer matches and asks a workspace owner to update it in Screenly’s SAML settings, which are
under Settings > Security > “SAML single sign-on”. The other causes Screenly now recognizes:

The identity provider didn’t sign the sign-in.

The sign-in expired before it reached Screenly, which usually means the identity provider’s
clock is out of step.

The identifier set in the identity provider doesn’t match the Entity ID in Screenly.

The identity provider sent the sign-in to a different reply URL than Screenly expects.

The sign-in link points to a SAML configuration that no longer exists.

Anything else still shows the general message.

Screenly 26.9.5: SAML sign-in no longer fails for some workspaces, and linking an identity provider account finishes

For some workspaces, signing in with SAML failed on every attempt and ended on an error page.
Those workspaces can sign in with SAML now.

Linking your Screenly account to your identity provider had a broken last step too, whichever
provider you sign in with. After you entered the code on the “Link identity provider account”
page, you landed on an error page even though you were already signed in. Confirming the code now
takes you to the Lobby.

Screenly 26.9.5: Switching tabs on a playlist keeps your unsaved changes

Edits you hadn’t saved on a playlist’s Content tab were thrown away when you switched to another

what the page is called in Content.

Leave it blank and Screenly names the page after its address, without the
https://
and

Improvements

Email from Screenly, including sign-in codes, workspace invitations, and screen up and down

The confirmation code we email when you change your email address, turn two-factor

instead of 1.

Connecting or disconnecting an integration under Settings > Integrations now brings you back
to that page in the same workspace, with its confirmation message, instead of sending you to
the Lobby to pick your workspace again.

Improvements

The Lobby lists your workspaces with the ones you entered most recently at the top.

A screen’s Overview and Details tabs show the player software as a plain version number, so

arm64-26.7.0-pi64-3067
now reads 26.7.0. On screens running ScreenlyOS the field is labeled
“ScreenlyOS version”.

Subscription handling is more reliable, including what happens to a workspace’s screens when
its subscription ends.

Enter your address and the code is already on
its way, so the code page opens with the field ready for it rather than asking you to press “Send
code to email” first.

The page also says where the code went. A mistyped address is now something you can see, instead
of something you work out from mail that never arrives, and “Wrong email address? Change it”
takes you back to correct it.

Screenly 26.9.1: A sign-in code that cannot be sent now says so

When your sign-in code could not be emailed, the page carried on as if it had been sent and asked
you for the code, and you were left waiting for mail that was never coming. It now says the send

Invitations
were. One arrived by email, and the link in that email was the only way to accept it, so an
invitation that went to spam or got deleted was effectively gone, and you had no way to check
whether you had been invited at all.

There is now. Signing in lands on the Lobby, which has two tabs: the workspaces you belong to,
each showing your role in it, and your pending invitations with a count on the tab. You can accept
or decline an invitation right there, and a workspace you accept joins your list. It’s also where
you create a workspace, first or not, and it’s reachable any time from the workspace name in the
sidebar.

Memberships that have been disabled appear in the list too, labeled as disabled rather than
quietly missing, so you can tell the difference between having lost access and never having had
it.

Workspaces that sign in through your own identity provider send you there from the Lobby, so a
mixed set of workspaces (some on SAML, some not) works from one list.

Screenly 26.8.8: Signing up with Google no longer creates a workspace for you

The first time you signed in with Google without belonging to any workspace, Screenly created one
for you, named after your company’s mail domain, or your username on a personal address, rather
than anything you chose. Your free trial started right then, whether you were ready to set anything
up or not.

Now a Google sign-up with no workspace lands in the Lobby, and
you create your first workspace there yourself, with the name you want. Your free trial starts when
you create it, so none of it goes by before you’re ready to start.

Signing up with an email address still creates your first workspace for you, named the same way.

Screenly 26.8.8: App settings can hide options that do not apply

An app’s settings form used to show every option it had, all at once, in whatever order they
happened to arrive in. For an app with a handful of settings that is fine. For one where half the
options only matter if you picked a particular mode, it means reading past settings that do
nothing for you and guessing which ones your choices have made irrelevant.

A setting can now depend on another, so the form shows it only when it applies, and an app can
set the order its settings appear in, putting the decisions you make first at the top.

This is something each app’s author adopts, so you will see it on apps as their authors take it
up rather than everywhere at once. Nothing changes for an app that has not.

For app developers

Both keys go in a setting’s
help_text
, as a JSON object instead of a plain string:

"depends_on": { "setting": "widget_type", "values": ["chart", "ticker"] }
}
}

depends_on
names another setting and the values that make this one apply. Above, the symbol
field appears only while
widget_type
is
chart
or
ticker
. A setting hidden this way is
genuinely absent rather than merely invisible: it is not validated and its value is not saved, so
a required setting that does not apply to the chosen mode cannot block an install.

display_order
is a number, sorted ascending within the basic and advanced groups separately. A
setting without one keeps the order it arrived in and sorts after every setting that has one.

The
help_text
inside
properties
is the text shown under the field, since the outer
help_text

is now carrying the schema.

Both keys fail open. A
help_text
that is not a JSON object with a
schema_version
is treated as
plain help text exactly as before, and a malformed
depends_on
shows the setting rather than
hiding it, so a mistake in a schema cannot make a setting unreachable.

Screenly 26.8.8: Content search skips empty folders, and other fixes

Fixes
