Datadog helps teams monitor their infrastructure and visualize data on beautiful custom dashboards. Users can combine infrastructure performance and business metrics using multiple data sources. At Screenly, we use Datadog ourselves to monitor all sorts of data, including data from Google Cloud and Kubernetes.
Below, we detail how to display a Datadog dashboard on a digital sign. With Screenly, Datadog users can display their dashboards to their teams using existing TVs and monitors. When company metrics are easily accessible and top-of-mind among employees, teams can use that data to make more informed business decisions.
Steps for showing Datadog metrics on a digital sign
To show a Datadog dashboard on a digital sign, you will first need to generate a public share link for your dashboard. To do so:
- Log in to Datadog and navigate to the dashboard you wish to display.
- Click the settings icon on the top right of the screen.
- Click “Generate public URL” and set any custom configurations.
Note that you can revoke a public URL to a dashboard at any time. This feature is important, as teams often display sensitive company information using Datadog. To revoke a public URL to a screen, go to the Dashboard List page. Next, select the dashboard and click the settings icon on the top right of the screen. Next, in the “Configure sharing” section, click the “Revoke public URL” option.
Setting up your digital sign
Now that you have your public URL, the next step is setting up your digital sign. The first step for creating a digital sign is to purchase a Screenly Player. A Screenly Player is a small physical device that renders content to your TV or monitor. You can then pair your digital signage player and associated screen to your online Screenly account.
The next step for building a digital sign is adding the public URL for your Datadog dashboard to your online Screenly account. To do so, log in to your online Screenly account and click the Content tab on the left-hand menu. In the new page that loads, click the “+ New Content” button on the top right. Next, click the URL tab in the popup modal, and paste the public URL into the “Enter URL link” input field. Be sure to click Finish when you successfully add the URL.
You can then assign the URL content to a playlist and to one or multiple screens. If everything goes smoothly, your Datadog dashboard will start displaying on your TV or monitor.
Show your Datadog dashboards on a digital sign
Displaying Datadog dashboards on a digital sign helps keep teams motivated and focused on company goals. When everyone can see key metrics and performance data, everyone can act on that information, too.
