A year in review - Screenly’s happenings in 2024

The year 2024 has been one for the books at Screenly, filled with product releases, feature improvements, team building, and impressive growth. As we reflect on the past months, it’s clear how much we’ve accomplished and how this sets the stage for an impressive upcoming 2025. In the post below, we’ve compiled a few milestones from 2024 that we’d like to share and highlight as we prepare for the year ahead.

Making custom digital signage easier than ever

A major push of 2024 was the comprehensive rollout of Screenly Edge Apps, in particular our Edge App Store, which give developers a quick and easy way to create digital signage applications. By focusing on all the behind-the-scenes work, we allow developers to focus fully on the features that drive business value. We also built out the Edge App Store with ready-to-go apps that can be customized line-by-line at the code level, including an iframe Edge App, a simple message Edge App, a countdown timer Edge App, a TFL bus stop Edge App, and a PowerBI Edge App.

Keeping our customers in the loop

We also launched the Screenly Changelog, a monthly video podcast and recap of everything digital signage and Screenly. This production helps our customers stay connected to our latest updates, and it’s been an effective and fun way to share insights into our ongoing improvements and thoughts on the digital signage industry at large.

New programs for faster digital signage deployments

We also introduced new programs to help businesses bring digital signage into their workflows faster and more easily. Our Bring Your Own Device program lets users install Screenly on their existing hardware. This step supports our goal of being a hardware-agnostic provider and granting customers maximum flexibility. Another major launch was Screenly for Events, which simplifies digital signage for conferences, expos, and other gatherings. We provide the hardware, setup, and screen management so that event organizers can focus on content rather than logistics.

Screenly around the world

It’s been a busy travel year, too. We started out in Barcelona at the Integrated Systems Europe conference in February, followed by a memorable Screenly Summit in Lisbon for our full team in September. Soon after, we took part in the Ubuntu Summit in The Hague and wrapped up the year with the Digital Signage Experience show in Las Vegas. As a remote company, these gatherings offer a valuable chance to meet in person and connect with colleagues, partners, and friends across the digital signage community.

New features at Screenly

We also introduced a slew of new features to enhance the user experience. Shared playlists let teams build and share playlists across their organization, creating a centralized content distribution with added flexibility. Screen notes give users a convenient place to record details like setup instructions and screen workflow specifics. Full YouTube video support and PDF support makes uploading and presenting content easier than ever. Also, our recent Slack integration lets teams keep an eye on real-time screen actions in a communication platform they already use every day.

Digital signage security advancements

Security remains a top priority at Screenly, and we’ve implemented several updates to reinforce that commitment. Screenly personal customer support PINs, a logged software bill of materials, and adherence to CISA’s Secure by Design Framework all strengthen the safety of our platform. This constant attention to security underscores our belief that digital signage security should always be a top priority rather than just an add-on or afterthought.

Looking ahead to 2025

It’s been a productive and exciting year! We look forward to 2025 with enthusiasm, and we remain committed to providing our users with the best digital signage platform on the market for our users.
